Community Outreach

Community Outreach

Through our Boys & Girls Club we seek to serve those outside of Club walls. We offer educational, health and life skill opportunities to the youth of Greeneville and Greene County.
Objectives:
  • To educate and inform youth outside Club walls
  • To offer opportunities to community youth
  • To develop a beneficial relationship to those within our community
  • To offer assistance in developing life skills

Some of our Community Outreach activities include:

Day for Kids:
In collaboration with many community agencies, our Day for Kids event is held each September at Hardin Park.  It is a day for adults to spend time with their kids in a fun and free setting.  The event will be held in the Fall of 2023. Read more about Day for Kids!
Read Across America:
March 2nd is Dr. Seuss' birthday and also National Read Across America Day, an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for  every child in every community to celebrate reading. The Boys & Girls Club makes a celebration of this event by reaching out to several schools during this week for a reading program. Club staff and volunteers dress as Dr. Seuss characters during the reading outreach programs. During the program, we distribute pencils, bookmarks and other Dr. Seuss items to remind children about the importance of reading. In addition to the elementary reading program, we host a Read Across America program at the Club where green eggs and ham is served as a snack while listening to staff read a beloved Dr. Seuss book.
Ultimate Journey: This bi-annual program is a six week environmental education program that educates students about plants, animals, the water cycle, solar system, maps and how each of us can make a contribution to make our world a better place than it was before. This program is taught once in the spring and once in the fall. Third and fourth grade students are given a lesson on each topic and then given a hands on learning activity to accompany the lesson. This program helps students to raise educational proficiency on these topics. The Ultimate Journey program is made possible thanks to funding by the Bristol Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities.
Youth Summit: The Youth Summit is a time where community leaders want to encourage and support the youth of our community by promoting good character and helping students get back to the basics of treating one another with respect.  This year’s Youth Summit brings together all eighth grade students from the Greeneville City and Greene County Schools to help instill positive values focusing on this year’s theme of, "Service & Leadership". This program is brought to almost 800 eighth grade students from surrounding middle schools by the Boys & Girls Club at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center.  Members and organizations from the community are also engaged in the Youth Summit. Debbie Mather, a local Zumba instructor, shared with the kids her journey of physical fitness and encouraged them to participate in a facility-wide, 800 person Zumba class! Local band, The Dugger Band provides entertainment before and after the event. We also had a local, youth leader from each high school bring a positive message to the group.
