Pepsi Major League Baseball PITCH, HIT & RUN provides youngsters the opportunity to participate in an exciting baseball skills competition. PITCH, HIT & RUN is a free program that gives boys and girls ages 7 to 14 the chance to showcase their baseball abilities. PITCH, HIT & RUN is intended to encourage youth participation and emphasize the fun element of baseball. There is no registration fee to enter and boys and girls compete together in four different age groups: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Locally the competition is being held by the Boys & Girls Club, The Greeneville Astros and The Greeneville Parks & Recreation. The local event will take place on Thursday, April 12th at Legion Field. Registration will begin at 3:30 pm and the competition will start at 4:00 pm. Awards will be presented to the winners in each age division. |

The Greeneville Astros and the Boys & Girls Club will teamed up again to present the annual Baseball Skillz & Drillz Clinic on Saturday, July 21st for local kids at Pioneer Park the home of the Greeneville Astros. The free clinic will provide baseball skills training by the Greeneville Astros players and coaches to all in attendance. The baseball clinic will end with pizzas and drinks and free tickets to a Greeneville Astros game. The participants will also get free t-shirts from the clinic sponsored by local businesses. Greeneville Astros players & coaches will basic drills in hitting, pitching, base running and fielding in all positions as young players will be shifted every 15 minutes to be able to work on every position from infield and outfield to pitching and catching. |

The Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville & Greene County will host a Golf Skills day at the Link Hills Golf Course in June. The event is aa free golf clinic followed by a golf skills competition with the winners receiving trophies. The participants will also be treated to lunch following the activities. This clinic and competition are sponsored by Appalachian Forest Products and Innovative Design Industries, with free t-shirts for the competitors being furnished by several local businesses. Courtney & Amy Hutchinson and their daughter, Katie helped coordinate the event and clinic along with members of local golf teams. This skills clinic will teach players how to chip the ball, drive off the tee and focuson short and long putts among other golfing skills. |

B&G Club Jr. Golf Classic

The Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville & Greene County will host their annual Boys & Girls Club Jr. Golf Classic at the Link Hills Country Club Golf Course in July with divisions for competitors in several age groups. The Greeneville Pediatric Clinic and the Laughlin Memorial Hospital Children’s Center, will once again sponsor this year’s event. The event is open to all boys and girls ages 4-18 in several different competitions. |

Football Skills Clinic
|
The Tusculum College Pioneer Football team will team up with the Boys & Girls Club to hold their annual Football Skills Skills Clinic at the Tusculum College Pioneer Football field again this fall. This clinic is free and run by Tusculum College head football coach Frank DeBusk, Tusculum College players and coaches. Coach DeBusk talks to the kids about education, sportsmanship and teamwork and then the kids participate in many different activities with the players and coaches. T-shirts are provided to the participants while supplies last thanks to local sponsors. |

The Takoma Regional Hospital Basketball Skills Day Clinic is free for the many local kids that participatein the free clinic held at the East View Recreation Center each year. The clinic has been lead by Tusculum Pioneers men’s head basketball Coach Jim Boone with volunteer assistance from Tusculum Pioneer players, ETSC basketball coach Murray Bartow and University of Tennessee Volunteer basketball player, Dane Bradshaw over the last three years. |

Atmos - Greeneville Astros 5K Road Race |
The 2010 Greeneville Astros 5K, presented by Atmos Energy will be held on Saturday, July 26, at 8 am at Pioneer Park in Greeneville, Tennessee. This event benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville & Greene County. The run will start on the beautiful campus of Tusculum College, winding through a scenic hiking trail of Tusculum, ending with a lap around the warning track of Pioneer Park, the baseball stadium for the Greeneville Astros. Registration begins at 6:30 am, the 5K Race begins at 8:00 am. Entry fee is $15 per participant and each participant will receive an event 5-K T-shirt and one general admission ticket to a 2009 Greeneville Astros home game. |

Jason Whitten addresses the campers at his annual football Camp held in Elizabethton Saturday. Jason Whitten was a star at the University of Tennessee and now is a Pro Bowl tight end with the Dallas Cowboys. Several other college and professional football players were on hand to help with this year’s clinic including Erik Ainge the former quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers and now a New york Jet and All-Pro quarterback Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys. The Boys & Girls Club took several kids to this free football clinic giving them a chance to learn some football skills, hear from Whitten and Romo on the importance of working hard in the classroom and in life to reach their goals and then were able to get autographs from all the celebrity guests. |
