Boys & Girls Club Annual Celebrity Auction a Huge Success
With a crowd of over 225 people, the Boys & Girls Club was able to raise over $50,000 at their annual Celebrity Auction held at Trinity United Methodist Church. Over 600 items were up for bid this year" stated Nata Jackson, the event co-chairman along with Eddie Yokley, a Boys & Girls Club board member. "We were very pleased with the bids the Club received this year and it was due to the hard work of the Club staff and dedicated volunteers that worked many hours over the last seven months to put this event together", she added. Many bidders in attendance stated that they were always amazed at how the Boys & Girls Club was able to get items from so many people in so many different fields, from sports to politics, to actors and local items. Many unique items were on display for sale by the Club. There was something for everyone at this year’s event including pictures, scripts, sports equipment and certificates from area vendors."
Title Sponsors for this year’s event were EcoQuest International and Summers Taylor while C&C Millwright and RPC/ Pro Cote sponsored the Dinner. The Orthopaedic Center of Greeneville, Takoma Adventist Hospital, and Vulcan Materials were the Bid Table Sponsors. Table Sponsors were Andrew Johnson Bank, BB&T, CE Minerals, DTR Tennessee, EcoQuest Printing, Grand Rental Station, First Tennessee Bank, Forward Air, Greene County Bank, Greeneville Federal Bank, Landair Transport, Leonard Associates, Marsh Petroleum, Power Equipment Company, Right Angle Enterprises, Warehouse Logistics, TI Automotive Group, Bank of Greeneville, GCS Partnership, The Town of Greeneville, and Vistawall. Scott Bullington, the Club’s Director stated "that the auction would not be the success it is without the commitment from so many businesses from throughout our community".
There were many hot items at this year’s event with the top selling item this year was a Tennessee Volunteer football helmet signed by former UT quarterback, Peyton Manning that went for $500. Right behind that, were two items that went for $450, a football also autographed by Manning and a framed print by Robert Tanenbaum of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Tiger Woods. A Judith Plucker signed and framed print of the Greeneville Federal Courthouse brought $400. Tickets were also hot items, with a pair of tickets to the 2007 Kentucky Derby going for $370 and the 2007 Food City 500 tickets fetching $350. A NASCAR helmet signed by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards, Michael Waltrip, and over 20 others, going for $320. A President’s Cup cap autographed by Phil Mickleson, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Davis Love III, and others went for $300. Walt Disney World Day Hopper passes went for $280 and a Pat Summitt autographed basketball brought in $225. The Laser & Skin Care Center basket and office visit went for $220, a Chicago Bears football jersey signed by Hall of Famer Mike Singletary went for $210, and the mystery box that had several sports items, including a basketball signed by UT coach Bruce Pearl went for $200.
Other items of great interest were an Eisenhower Foundation framed print, a George Bush election button shadow box, a gas grill from Grand Rental Station, a Dick Butkus autographed football, a Peyton Manning and Phil Fulmer signed TV Guide, a framed print of The Big Spring, a Danica Patrick autographed Rahal/Letterman Racing Team cap, a Gretchen Wilson autographed picture and scale die cast NASCAR, a Tiger Woods framed print, a Pat Summitt autographed picture, a Richard Petty autographed picture, an uncut sheet of 1981 Donruss baseball cards, a Steve Young signed picture, a combo VCR/DVD player from Circuit City, a Jack Nicklaus framed print, a Ron Jaworski autographed football, a 1952 Knoxville Smokies baseball signed by the team including Greeneville’s own Klon Greene, a shadow box of election buttons of Ronald Regan, a Tony Dorsett autographed football card, and a golf package to Link Hills Country Club.
Boys & Girls Club Board President Ted Bryant said "He wanted give a special thanks to the Trinity United Methodist Church kitchen crew for the great food for the evening and to Eddie Yokley and Scott Wills for volunteering their services as auctioneers for the evening." Event volunteers and staff that helped set up for this year’s event were: Nata and Heather Jackson, Carolyn, Tyler and Jordan Yokley, Mark, Laura and Jon Pendleton, Randy and Carolyn Brown Capps, Jerry Fortner, Ted Bryant, Mike Menz, Lynette Patterson, Randy Tilson, Steve Mears, Scott Bullington, Cathy Byrd, Sangela Blue, Jessica and Bailey Jarrell, Rodney Aistrop, Lisa Webb, Ty Moore and Phelan Story.
Events such as the auction help to fund the local Boys & Girls Club programs. School year membership at the Boys & Girls Club is just $5 per child, per year and $50 for the regular summer program. The Boys & Girls Club is open to all school age youth that reside in Greeneville and Greene County.
