The NASCAR race might have been going on in Bristol Saturday night, but the real action was at the Sixth Annual Boys & Girls Club Celebrity Aution where more than $48,000 was raised for the local Club's programs. Over 200 people gathered for a buffet dinner and both a live and silent auction. The evening took place at Trinity United Methodist Church in Greeneville. Scott Bullington, the Executive Director for the Boys & Girls Club stated that this year's event turned out to be the most successful event that the Club has ever held. This speaks volumes about the popularity of the auction since the Club also holds the Annual Bob Kesling Golf Classic with many celebrities and an annual Champions Dinner that has had such speaker as Tennessee Volunteer Coaches Phillip Fulmer, Bruce Pearl, Johnny Majors, & Ray Mears. |

"We really had good participation from our bidders and we were delighted to surpass all expectations for our live and silent auction items this year." said Michael Jackson of EcoQuest International, a Co-Title Sponsor of the event and a GGCBGC board member and the Co-Chairman of this year's event, along with Eddie Yokley. Many bidders in attendance stated that they were always amazed at how the Boys & Girls Club were able to get items from so many people in so many different fields, from sports to politics, to actors, to local items. Many unique items were up for sale by the Club as there was something for everyone at this year's auction. There were pictures to scripts to sports equipment to certificates from area vendors. Over 500 items were up for bid this year" stated Ted Bryant of Co-Title Sponsor, Summers Taylor and a Boys & Girls Club board member. "We were very happy with the quality of items and the bids the Club received this year and it was due to the hard work of the many Club staffers and volunteers over the last seven months that brought the event together" he added. |
