The fifth annual Boys & Girls Club Celebrity Auction was a tremendous success, raising more than $35,000 for the local club. More than 200 people gathered for a buffet dinner with both a live and silent auction on August 14, 2004 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Scott Bullington, the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club stated that this year’s event “turned out to be our best auction yet. We really had a good participation from our bidders and we were able to surpass all expectations for our auction items this year”. It was great to get items from celebrities of all ages and walks of life. Ted Bryant of co-title sponsor Summers Taylor and a Boys & Girls Club board member said that he was very pleased with the bids the club received this year and he felt that based on the revenues received from the auction combined with the ticket, ad and table sales that we had the most profitable event that the club has ever hosted. The Top Ten items were as follows: a 1991 Toyota Tercel bringing in $775, a pen owned by President Lyndon B. Johnson donated by Lady Bird Johnson bringing $550, two 800 wins basketballs signed by Lady Vols Coach Pat Head Summitt bringing $550 each, a Mizuno baseball bat autographed by Former UT All-American and current Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton selling for $400, a Gatlinburg Condo vacation package for $375, Thermos Fire & Ice gas grill combo donated by Marsh Petroleum bringing $365, a football signed by celebrity golfers from the Bob Kesling Golf Classic selling for $300, Bristol Motor Speedway tickets to the Food City 250 bringing $250, a football signed by many former UT Vols bringing $200, and a Pirates of the Caribbean movie poster selling for $200. Other items of interest to bidders included a David Robinson San Antonio Spurs Highland mint piece, a Tusculum College football helmet, a Sean Connery James Bond movie poster, a Joe Torre autographed baseball, a Coca-Cola clock, an autographed picture of Muhammad Ali, golf packages from Link Hills Country Club and the Ridges, a Greeneville Astros team autographed baseball, a Cal Ripken book and commemorative coin, an autographed picture of former President Jimmy Carter, a flag flown over the Tennessee State Capital, Tennessee Vols football tickets, Detroit Piston’s coach Larry Brown autographed basketball, a signed print by Mitchell Tolle of the Big Spring, and an autographed picture of football great Terry Bradshaw. Bidders in attendance stated that they were always amazed at how the Boys & Girls Club was able to get items from people in so many different fields from sports to politics to TV & Movies to local items as well. There was actually something for everyone at this year’s event with items ranging from pictures to scripts to sports equipment to food certificates and even a couple of used cars. This year’s event was sponsored by EcoQuest International and Summers Taylor while C&C Millwright was the dinner sponsor, Vulcan Materials was the bid table sponsor and EcoQuest Printing was the program sponsor. Gold sponsors for the event included: Alpine Technologies, Andrew Johnson Bank, Forward Air, Landair Transport, Orthopaedic Center of Greeneville, RPC ProCote, Takoma Adventist Hospital , the Town of Greeneville and Warehouse Logistics. Silver table sponsors were Greeneville Federal Bank, Leonard Associates and TI Automotive. Bronze Sponsors included Angus Palm, First Tennessee Bank, GCS Partnership, Vistawall, John Deere Power Products, Marsh Petroleum and TIS Insurance. Nata Jackson, Co-Chairman of this year’s event expressed thanks to the Volunteer Auctioneers for this year’s event Gary Wills, Scott Wills and State Representative Eddie Yokley and to Chianda Blevins, Katie Clark and Jenny Close for their help with the item running and display. Yokley also co-chaired this year’s event. The Food was prepared by the Trinity United Methodist Church Kitchen Crew headed by Michael Knapp and Chris Oldenberg.
