Character & Leadership
Our Character and Leadership program is set up to teach community trusteeship and to empower our youth to use their influence to help shape our community in a positive manner. These programs and projects help our Club members develop needed skills in leadership, teamwork, planning and decision making.

Community Service Projects: Club members of all ages participate in a variety of community service projects throughout the year to teach youth the importance of giving back to the community. Some of our many projects include clean-ups, food drives, coat drives and grandparent events.
Davy Crockett Cleanup: Club members give back to their community through this service project by cleaning up the Davy Crockett area. This program partners with Keep Greene Beautiful and teaches youth the importance of keeping our community clean and beautiful while developing team working and leadership skills.
Holiday Cards for Nursing Homes: These seasonal events allow Club members to spread cheer to those who need it most in our community. From fun Halloween themed cards to Christmas cards, members draw, paint and craft their own letters to give to residents in local nursing homes allowing youth to develop compassion and civic responsibility.
Kinser Park Cleanup:
Youth participate in this annual summer program which allows them to give their time to cleaning up our local Kinser Park. Club members spend the morning cleaning litter and beautifying the area after which they are able to enjoy a nice dip in the pool.
Youth of the Month: This program allows the staff to recognize an outstanding Club member each month of the year for their achievements. This awarded is given to one boy and one girl based on Club attendance, participation, attitude and community service. These members are then recognized by the Optimist Club at a quarterly dinner and given a plaque of recognition.
Youth of the Year:
Our annual program is designed to promote and recognize service to the Club and community academic performance, school events involvement, contributions to family and spiritual life. A junior or senior is selected at the local level and then is eligible to compete on the state level competition held annually each April.
