Boys & Girls Club Celebrity Auction raises over $83,000
The event raised over $83,000 for the local Boys & Girls Club’s activities and programs. The auction featured over eight hundred items that ranged from vacation packages, meals at local restaurants, business certificates and items, to memorabilia and autographs from the world of sports, politics, music, TV, movies, notables, and many other unique items.
“We had a good crowd, great food and a lot of items to bid on this year in both the live and silent auction,” stated Rebecca Tipton, a board member, and the co-chairman of this year’s event along with Eddie Yokley. Several bidders in attendance stated that they were always amazed at how the Boys & Girls Club were able to get so many unique items. This year's event show-cased a wide array of distinctive items, ensuring there was something for everyone. Highlights included a baseball bat signed by the National Champion Tennessee Volunteer baseball team, megalodon shark teeth, a flag crafted from old Greeneville Fire Department equipment, Civil War artifacts, numerous autographed collectibles, as well as various business and vacation offerings. Laura Pendleton, a Boys & Girls Club board member stated, “The Boys & Girls Club was very pleased with the generous bids we received again this year. Our success was due to the hard work of all the Boys & Girls Club staff, the board and event volunteers that put this auction together. We are grateful to the members of our community that came and bid generously to make this event a tremendous success and to all the donors that help supply items for this event.”
This year’s event was title sponsored by Greeneville Federal Bank and Summers Taylor. The other major sponsors of this year’s event included: Brumley’s Catering by Angeez, Greeneville Energy Authority, John Deere, Stowers Machinery, Vulcan Materials, Austin Powder, Grand True Value Rental, Martin Marietta, McCoy Construction & Forestry, Power Equipment and Artistic Printers.
The top selling item of the night was a John Deere Riding Lawn Mower donated by John Deere Power Products. The next highest selling item was, a Tennessee Volunteers 2024 NCAA Baseball National Champions Autographed College World Series Baseball Bat donated by Dr. Daniel Lewis. Scott Bullington, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club stated that he wanted to thank the great board members of the Boys & Girls Club, the Celebrity Auction committee, and the volunteers of his organization for pulling together this team effort that made the auction such a success. “We could not achieve our continued successes for our events without the efforts of these individuals. We are truly fortunate to have such a caring group to support our community’s youth,” stated Bullington. He also stated that the organization was extremely fortunate to get so many items in the mail from celebrities across the country and beyond. He was also thankful for the tremendous support that the organization receives throughout the community. “You can tell that these people care about kids,” he added.
Andy Schlesing, a member of the Boys & Girls Club Board, expressed thanks to Scott Bullington, Jennifer Wilder, Peyton Malone, Katelyn Weems, Cindy Heavener, and all the wonderful staff members of the Boys & Girls Club. Andy also thanked the many volunteers that helped to make this year’s event such a success as well as praising the great work done by Josh Swatzell, Jacob Ball, Heather Easterly and Eddie Yokley who volunteered as the evening’s auctioneer group. Boys & Girls Club board member, Ted Bryant of title sponsor Summers Taylor, expressed thanks to the many volunteers that helped pull items and that helped with the checkout process, the generous bidders and to Angeez Catering for the excellent food provided for the event and the Greeneville Parks & Recreation for the use of their facility. The school year membership at the Boys & Girls Club is $35 per child per school year and $190 for the entire summer program. The Boys & Girls Club is open to all school-age youth who reside in Greeneville and Greene County. The Boys & Girls Club has various programs for youth development including character and leadership development, arts, sports fitness and recreation, education and career development and health and life skills. The local Boys & Girls Club has received many state and local awards for its community involvement and youth development programs over the past few years and remains a leader in youth development for our community. 25th Annual Boys & Girls Club Celebrity Auction Set for Saturday at
Greeneville Parks & Recreation East View Gym
Greeneville Federal Bank and Summers Taylor will present the 24th
Annual Boys & Girls Club Celebrity Auction on Saturday, October 26th, at
Greeneville Parks & Recreation Department’s East View Gymnasium. The annual
event has grown into the biggest event of this type locally due to its
continued success. Sustaining its standard caliber of items, the Boys &
Girls Club will have 800 items to bid on from sports & entertainment
memorabilia to travel & vacation packages to local items such as food
certificates, home goods and retail items.
The event offers an item preview and buffet dinner from 5:00 pm to 5:30
pm with the live and silent auction of celebrity & local items starting at
5:30 pm. Tickets are on sale and may be purchased at the Boys & Girls Club
of Greeneville & Greene County located at 740 West Church Street. Call Scott
Bullington or Peyton Malone at 787-9322 for more details. The Boys & Girls
Club is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 am until 6:30 pm during the school
year.
Due to the large volume of items for bidding, the auction will be set up
with some items going live and others as a silent auction. Marquee items for
this year’s event from the 800 items that will be on sale include a John
Deere riding mower, a Las Vegas Travel package at the South Pointe Hotel &
Casino, Tennessee Volunteers football tickets, apparel, vacation packages,
sports trading cards, restaurant & local business certificates, sports
memorabilia from many pro sports leagues and much more. Other items for the
auction range from event tickets, framed pictures, home décor items, gift
certificates, golf passes, oil changes and homemade and local items.
Each year the Boys & Girls Club mails out letters and submits online
requests for donations from celebrities, companies, sports clubs, and other
notable people explaining the event and its ability to generate money for
the day-to-day operations of the Club. “It is really great for our Club kids
to see that these people from other areas care enough to take the time to
send items for our auction to benefit the kids of our community,” said
Executive Director Scott Bullington. “It takes a lot of work from the staff,
the entire board, and other volunteers to pull this event off each year,”
commented committee co-chair Rebecca Tipton.
Events such as the auction help to fund the local Boys & Girls Club
operational budget annually. The Club offers various programs for youth
development and the Boys & Girls Club has received several state and local
awards for community involvement and youth development programs. The Boys &
Girls Club serves both Club members and community youth each year through
Club participation, school outreach and junior sports events. Dr. Daniel
Lewis, a board member for the organization, states, “We have so many unique
items this year. We are really looking forward to seeing everyone on
Saturday for this great event to support a wonderful cause!”

Boys & Girls Club Celebrity Auction Raises Over $82,000

The Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville & Greene County held their 24th annual Celebrity Auction on Saturday, August 12 and it was a huge success, topping $ 82,000 to become their most successful event ever held. The auction was held at the Greeneville Parks & Recreation’s East View Center, and it started with a storm of pouring rain outside that turned into generous bids inside by the sold out, overflowing crowd.
The event raised over $82,000 for the local Boys & Girls Club’s activities and programs. The auction featured almost 650 items that ranged from vacation packages, meals at local restaurants, business certificates and items, to memorabilia and autographs from the world of sports, politics, music, TV, movies, notables, and many other unique items.
